Neighbors For A Better Crossing is an Oregon Non-Profit (Registry # 2316447900), located in Portland Oregon.
We are an organization of volunteers working on behalf of local communities in Oregon & Washington along the I-5 corridor that will be negatively impacted by the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program’s (IBRP) bridge replacement proposals, all of which promote a very huge & expensive bridge replacement, that does little to relieve traffic congestion at the crossing.
IBRP’s rush to force this project and avoid public scrutiny is noteworthy from the limited information it’s given out about the impact of its proposed replacement bridge’s extreme height (116 ft clearance above the river compared to the 26ft of the existing bridge), it’s extreme cost ($7-12 Billion), and its short time periods for public review. As of 11-01-24, the IBRP has not yet presented a physical model of the bridge that shows the radical height of the bridge compared to the existing bridge. IBRP has only provided digital “Top Views” and distant “Side Views” of the enormous bridge they are proposing, which has raised serious concerns about their sincerity for public input. They push “Locally Preferred Plans (LPP),” without any meaningful input from the local communities affected by their design.
Accordingly, the “Mission” of Neighbors For A Better Crossing is to require the IBRP to be more forthcoming with full & complete information about the bridge, its height, its expense, and its true impact on local communities, and to extend public scrutiny & input for a 90-day period until after the full range of information and a “physical model” of the proposed bridge is provided to the public.
